Sports Interactive has officially canceled Football Manager 25, marking an unexpected turn for the long-running football management simulation series. Originally planned for release in November 2024, the game was delayed to March 2025 due to development challenges. However, after discussions with publisher Sega, the studio ultimately decided to scrap it altogether and shift its focus to the next installment, Football Manager 26, which is still set for release later this year.

The decision wasn’t taken lightly. According to the developers, while many aspects of the game had reached their intended targets, the overall player experience and interface were still lacking. Rushing the game out to meet the revised deadline would have compromised the ambitious technical and visual improvements promised for this version. Rather than delaying the game yet again, Sports Interactive concluded that it made more sense to move forward with Football Manager 26 instead.

Fans who had pre-ordered Football Manager 25 will receive refunds, but the cancellation will still come as a disappointment to those who were eagerly awaiting the next evolution of the franchise. The series, known for its yearly releases, has maintained a dedicated following for its deep tactical systems and management mechanics. Missing a year in its cycle is unusual, but the studio insists that this move will allow it to deliver a significantly better product in the long run.

While Football Manager 25 is officially off the table, anticipation is already building for what FM26 will bring. Given the studio’s promise of major advancements, fans will be hoping that the wait is worth it.
