Disney+ has reported a loss of 700,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2025, bringing its total to 124.6 million. This decline follows recent price increases, with the ad-supported plan rising from $7.99 to $9.99 and the ad-free option from $13.99 to $15.99. Additionally, Disney’s implementation of a “Paid Sharing” policy, aimed at curbing password sharing by limiting account usage to a single household unless an extra fee is paid, has contributed to the subscriber downturn. Despite this, Disney CEO Bob Iger noted that the churn rate was lower than anticipated. Looking ahead, the company expects further subscription declines in the next quarter. Conversely, Hulu, also owned by Disney, saw an increase of 1.6 million subscribers, reaching a total of 53.6 million. Overall, Disney’s revenue grew by 4.8%, bolstered by the success of “Moana 2,” which grossed over $1 billion in theaters.
