Google is internally testing a new “AI Mode” for its Search platform, aiming to improve responses to open-ended and exploratory queries. This feature utilizes a custom version of the Gemini 2.0 model, designed to provide advanced reasoning and comprehensive answers.
The “AI Mode” is intended to assist users with complex questions that are not adequately addressed by traditional search results. For example, it can offer advice on meal planning for large groups, compare different types of jackets based on specific criteria, or guide beginners on starting new hobbies like aquascaping.
The user interface for this mode features a chatbot-like interaction, allowing for follow-up questions and deeper engagement. Currently, “AI Mode” is being tested by Google employees in the United States, with potential plans for a broader rollout later this year.
